Back Into It Ft. Ty

by Afro Cluster

/

about

'Back Into It' delivers a first taste of ‘The Reach’, the debut album from Cardiff collective Afro Cluster.

Inspired by the golden age of Hip-Hop, this single is a modern refresh of that sound with themes calling attention to the vices and virtues that we all experience.

Guest vocals from acclaimed Nigerian British rapper Ty bolster the message; to discourage distractions and negative influence and put maximum effort into what you do in life whilst also engendering altruistic values in other people.

“It’s not easy to make music imbued with poetry and social conscience that moves your feet and your soul but Afro Cluster manage it effortlessly" - Adam Walton, BBC Radio Wales

lyrics

LYRICS:

Verse 1
One life to live much more we share in common
It’s love we’ve got to give when you care for someone
By the power of greyskull, I summon
The motivation to get your stomp on, come on
Fear of rejection I find misleading
A minor interception in the grand scheme when
Travelling the right direction, full steam ahead
Whose he then, the demon said, The Truth seeker
Pay no attention to the jealousy that comes when these fools creeping
Pick up a scent like golden retrievers
Don’t fear said my old dear when you’re stuck in the deep end
You never know, tomorrow, could be a higher plateau
You couldn’t reach if you didn’t practice what you preach
Mind even when the paths steep
Hard work from the heart and the rest will follow

Verse 2
Rebelling against any pessimistic views now
Telling em’ switch off the telly and turn the news down
Think for a second, what you wanna do and how
Execute it in your own style
Knowledge of self to better self
They soon found, how it affects everyone else
Some too proud, utilise the right tools
Three quarters of human plastic waste ain't recycled
Our duty to mindful, of what we consume and how it pollutes
Fruits of labour, art of survival
An age where paedophiles are masked as idols
Dust on tracks like crackles on vinyls
A primal oinstinct to go the distance
Even though you know the road is cold and it stinks
Idle Minds roam the district,
We will climb, move forward and risk it

Verse 3 (Ty)
No flack baby, nothing distracts the rap,
Boom bap baby, we do it back to back,
Digest the message, Try and test the method,
Do your best with effort and stay impressive,
Let your backbone be your map home,
Stay original, stay away from rap clones,
Don’t dismiss the rag and bones and caviar,
Don’t be pissed keep looking for your avatar,
Be a light-house family, be outstanding,
Stay lifted, the gift is to understand things,
Step by step and not expect Pompei,
In only one day, in only one way,
I’m sitting on the dock of the bay determined not to let the rot in today
I know it’s shocking to say...
But Satan’s always knocking to play, good thing my mamma used to turn him away

Chorus
Stuck on minimum wage, got the skills to create
It’s your choice to make, put your back into it
A problem we face, get it everyday
Do your own thing, put your back into it
Hear you wanna relate, got something to say
Let’s communicate, put your back into it
In a major way, we are not afraid
So we raise the stakes and put your back into it
